My story

Marion DarbyshireMy design memories go back to my childhood, surrounded by my mother’s old-world European style and my Aunt’s modern Caribbean home. My mother, having attended boarding school in London and vacationing in the South of France and throughout Europe, brought her design influences into my childhood home in Jamaica. Our journey to the US began with a year living in an old castle in Lodsworth, England, which solidified my love and appreciation for old-world style. Once in the US, we settled in Houston, Texas, where my parents opened a fine china shop. My first design job was creating elaborate table settings and vignettes with classic English and European china and crystal. Then in my late teens, our family transitioned back to Jamaica, where I gained further appreciation for the luxury villas and homes and their exotic and serene environments throughout the island.

Years later, I nurtured my business acumen and achieved an accounting degree at Baylor University, and subsequently passed the CPA exam. Soon after, I chose to combine my love of business and design by attending the world-renowned New York School of Interior Design in New York City. While attending school, I worked for Tout Le Monde Antiques, one of the largest antique dealers on the upper east side and simultaneously I began my design career at Reger Designs, a top design firm in New York City.

While in New York City, my first two children were born then 9/11 prompted our return to Texas. Once settled in Austin, I established Darbyshire Designs in 2003. While juggling home life and work, I was blessed with my third child. Now with two of my three children grown, I dedicate my time to creating exquisite interiors both in Austin and the Caribbean.

The breath of my life experience and travels has shown me that a well-designed home inspires peace, comfort, and joy and fosters fellowship with family and friends. This is achieved through increased functionality and beautiful design aesthetics catered to your unique style, from traditional to modern, elegant to eclectic metropolitan-inspired spaces. We customize your space for your lifestyle.
